Wayanad, the green paradise is nestled among the mountains of the Western Ghats, forming the border world of the greener part of Kerala. The name Wayanad has been derived from the expression 'Vayal nadu' - the village of paddy fields.

Wayanad interspersed with dense forest, tangled jungles and deep valleys. Quite a large area of the district is covered by forest. Coffee, tea, cocoa, pepper, plantain and vanilla are the main crops. Besides these cash crops, the most important crop in the district is rice. Dams and aqueducts have been constructed to take water. Wayanad consists of 3 taluks - Mananthavady, Sulthan Bathery and Vythiri.
