Thekkady
India’s one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries. This sanctuary is spread over an area of 777 Sq.Kms, surrounded by an artificial lake over an area of 25 Sq.Kms formed by a dam across the Periyar River. It is one of the well known Tiger reserve project of South India. The main attraction is a boat trip over this man-made lake of Thekkady. The forest department would also arrange elephant rides and trekking inside the sanctuary. One can see deers, monkeys, tigers, elephants and other exotic flora and fauna here. Place for adventurous sports, trekking into the jungle.
Thekkady is a pleasant heaven on earth for those who love nature in its wild manifestations.
